The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so-called third pillar.
For the team of Sophie van Linthout in the Health Center for Regenerative Theraies (BCRT) starting from the earliest possible date until October 31, 2027 we are looking for a
PhD Student (d/f/m) in Immunocardiology
part-time (min. 25,35h/week).
RG Van Linthout is embedded in the Berlin Institute of Health Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT), a translational, interdisciplinary center with the mission of understanding common principles of regeneration in disease to develop, apply and refine advanced therapies to cure patients.
The RG Van Linthout focuses on the contribution of extracardiac and cardiac inflammation in the pathogenesis of heart failure with main emphasis on S100A8/9 alarmins and the inflammasome, and the contribution of fibroblasts as inflammatory supporter cells.
What you can expect
- Characterization of inflammatory, fibrotic and mechanosensitive potential of an unexplored extracellular matrix (ECM) protein in cardiac fibroblasts: in vitro work
- Evaluation of inflammatory, fibrotic and mechanosensitive potential of the ECM protein in myocarditis mice: in vivo work
- Screening of the ECM protein in endomyocardial biopsies and serum of myocarditis patients
- Data analysis and graphical presentation of data
Guidance of master students
What you bring along
- Educational Background: degree in Molecular Medicine, Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Bioengineering, or a related field
- Expertise: strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology
- Experience: experience with outgrowth-derived cardiac fibroblasts and FlowJo is an asset
- Language Skills: Excellent English skills are required; knowledge of German is a plus
- Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication skills, experience working in multidisciplinary teams, and a record of working in competitive research environments are highly valued
- A thorough knowledge of our recent research work is required for the application process
