As part of our research focus on “Health Education,” we address key questions related to health literacy, both at the population level and within specific target groups. A current emphasis lies on disaster-related health literacy (“Disaster Health Literacy”).

Our research not only provides fundamental insights into the levels and dimensions of health literacy, but also serves as the basis for developing targeted intervention strategies in the field of health education.

To strengthen our interdisciplinary team, we are looking for committed and qualified colleagues who are passionate about exploring socially relevant topics through scientific inquiry and developing innovative approaches to health promotion.

Overview of the position

  • You will be employed as a research associate
  • The position offers the opportunity for further academic qualification (doctoral studies)
  • Your responsibilities include contributing to and conducting population-based studies on health literacy
  • You will produce academic publications, including in collaboration with international authors (research reports, articles, presentations)
  • You will teach in the degree programs offered at the institute, particularly in the Bachelor's program in Health Sciences
  • You will actively support students, supervise theses, and contribute to quality assurance in teaching
  • As part of an interdisciplinary project and teaching team, you will participate in both internal and external committees and collaborations
  • You are engaged in research: According to §110 (4), sentence 3, BerlHG provides for scientific employees to spend a reasonable time for higher scientific qualification during working hours
  • In accordance with the Teaching Obligation Ordinance - LVVO to the Higher Education Act Berlin you will have the obligation to teach in your field of work

What we are looking for

  • You hold an academic degree in Health Sciences/Public Health and/or Nursing Science, Social Sciences, or a comparable health-related discipline
  • You have sound knowledge of health literacy, the German healthcare system, and the relevant academic discourse
  • You bring methodological expertise, ideally with experience in the collection, analysis, and documentation of quantitative data
  • You work independently and responsibly, demonstrate strong organizational skills, team spirit, resilience, and excellent communication abilities
  • You enjoy academic writing and publishing (in both German and English), are enthusiastic about teaching, and possess very good German language skills (at least C1) as well as proficient English skills

Information regarding the position

  • Paygrade E13 according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
  • The position can be offered on a part-time basis with a working time of 28.9 hours per week
  • 30 days of paid vacation per year (based on a five-day workweek)
  • This position is offered as a fixed-term contract for 3 years, in order to obtain the doctorate
