Working at Charité

The research building Si-M is an innovative joint research initiative of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin. Its goal is to develop human-relevant models for the simulation of health and disease processes. Within Si-M, the Cytometry Platform plays a central role in the phenotypic and functional characterization of cells across a range of highly complex experimental setups. We offer a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, enabling close collaboration with leading scientists across multiple disciplines. The position provides the opportunity to establish and advanced innovative cytometry technologies in a cutting-edge research setting. We actively support professional development and career progression through continuing education opportunities. Flexible working hours and family-friendly policies ensure a supportive work-life balance.

Overview of the position

A central aspect of Si-M’s research agenda is the development, optimization, and application of human model systems to simulate physiological and pathophysiological processes of human diseases. Cytometric analysis and cell isolation technologies form a core component of Si-M’s scientific strategy. The Cytometry Platform plays a pivotal role in the deep phenotypic and functional characterization of human cells in complex, model-based experimental systems. Due to the technological complexity and scientific relevance of this platform, its successful operation requires a highly qualified expert with technical excellence and strategic vision.

The position includes responsibility for the structured training and support of users in advanced cytometry techniques, while also contributing to the development and implementation of novel workflows at the interface of cytometry, single-cell genomics, organoid research, and immunology. This also involves the application and integration of innovative approaches to continuously advance the platform at the highest technological and scientific level.

  • Strategic, research-oriented leadership of the Si-M Cytometry Platform
  • Personnel management, budget oversight, and coordination of resources and procurement
  • Operation and quality assurance of the cytometry infrastructure
  • User support, scientific consulting, and training
  • Collaborative research projects and acquisition of third-party funding
  • Quality, risk, and safety management

What we are looking for

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Diploma) in life or natural sciences; PhD with a focus on cell biology, immunology, or biotechnology
  • Extensive scientific expertise in cytometry, single-cell technologies, and OMICs
  • In-depth knowledge of panel design, sample preparation, data analysis methods, and relevant software tools
  • Proven experience in establishing, managing, and strategically developing scientific infrastructures (e.g., core facilities)
  • Familiarity with national and international research funding, third-party funding strategies, and public budgeting processes
  • Comprehensive technical proficiency in operating, maintaining, and ensuring quality control of complex instrumentation
  • Sound understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., Biological Agents Ordinance, laser safety, GxP, GDPR) as well as procurement and risk management
  • Strategic and conceptual thinker with a strong orientation toward innovation and emerging technologies
  • Strong leadership and team skills with demonstrated experience in personnel and resource management
  • High level of initiative, decisiveness, and sense of responsibility
  • Structured, analytical, and adaptable working style in dynamic research environments
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration and support of researchers
  • Background in immunology and experience with organoid systems are desirable
