Working at the Charité

The Institute of International Health is dedicated to patient care, research and teaching. Since 1999, the institute hosts the postgraduate, English-language Master's programme in International Health. The Master's programme consists of the four parts: the so called core course, the advanced studies period (advanced modules), the acquisition of relevant professional experience (if not already obtained prior to the studies) and a research project (thesis). A part of the advanced modules can also be completed at the institutions of the tropEd network. Currently, ca. 170 international students from over 30 countries are enrolled in the programme. The programme employs an academic coordinator, two research associate (1.3 FTE), three administrative positions (2.4 FTE) and three student assistants. Adjoined to the programme are third-party funded alumni and scholarship programmes.

The Institute of International Health of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is looking for an academic associate for the postgraduate Master's Programme in International Health to run a programme funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), called "FIT". The DAAD FIT Programme runs until end of 2028 and aims to support our international students in successfully competing their studies and preparing them for the German job market or integrating our graduates into it. 

Job Overview

  • Mentoring of international postgraduate Master students
  • Supporting our international students in acquiring the German language, getting their foreign professional qualifications recognised and preparing them for the German labour market
  • Contacting German institutions and companies in the (global) healthcare sector to build a cooperative network with our international students and graduates (e.g. through network meetings) and to provide career-related support services (e.g. internships)
  • Setting up and coordinating regular (e.g. monthly) meetings and workshops with and for our international students and graduates to exchange experiences and provide information about employability and a career in Germany
  • Communicating with the DAAD and reporting

Required:

  • Master Degree in an International/ Global Health related discipline
  • Excellent understanding of International/ Global Health and the current debates in this field
  • Very good knowledge of the German (global) health labour market and career paths in this field
  • Willingness to familiarize yourself with the procedures for recognizing foreign professional qualifications and obtaining a work permit for Germany
  • Excellent communication, mentoring and facilitation skills
  • Fluent command of German and English
  • Work experience in so-called low/ middle income countries is an advantage

Job Information

  • Salary group E13 according to TVöD VKA- K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services
