Working at the Charité
The SFB "Dynamic Hydrogels at Biointerfaces" investigates the key physicochemical parameters that determine protective hydrogel function at biological interfaces in health and define abnormalities in disease for prospective development of novel therapeutic strategies. This specific project will work on the biophysical and biochemical properties of the intestinal mucus layer, as well as their modulation by microbiota as key regulators of intestinal barrier function.
Job Overview
- In ccoperation with the Weinhart group from the FU Berlin, the following main research aims will be addressed:
- Biofabrication and characterization of mucus producing in vitro models of human small intestine
- Evaluation of biophysical and biochemical stimuli on mucus composition and properties
- Determine the role of secreted mucus for intestinal barrier function
- Analysis of disease specific changes of barrier function in relation to mucus properties, composition and intestinal microbiota
- Therefore, self-renewing, mucus producing in vitro models comprising 2D and 3D epithelial cultures, both derived from human intestinal 3D organoids, will be applied to identify mucus related features of the human intestinal epithelial barrier of healthy and diseased tissue samples
- Our group is located at the Campus Benjamin Franklin and provides a state-of-the-art immunological and molecular research lab as well as a comprehensive technical infrastructure

Required
- Applicants should hold a master's degree in biology / life sciences, preferably with an background in immunology, cell or molecular biology
- Candidates should be self-motivated and be able to pursue research projects independently as well as in collaborations
- Good command of written and oral English is essential

Job Information
- Salary group E13 according to TVöD- VKA- K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services
- The working time is part-time with 25 hours per week
- At our company 30 days of vacation are standard
- The position is limited until 31.12.2028, as it is tied to the project duration
