Working at Charité

The research group of Prof. Marcus Mall investigates disease mechanisms and develops novel therapeutic strategies for cystic fibrosis (CF) as well as other chronic lung diseases. Embedded within the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1449 "Dynamic Hydrogels at Biointerfaces", we investigate the physicochemical and biophysical parameters of hydrogels at biological interfaces within an interdisciplinary network.

We offer you a supportive, dynamic, and collaborative working environment with excellent training opportunities in translational lung research. Alongside structured doctoral supervision, you have the opportunity to enroll in the Charité PhD curriculum within the framework of the Berlin University Alliance. Become part of our team and shape future-oriented therapies together with dedicated colleagues!

Overview of the position

  • You conduct experimental investigations into the pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis and the testing of novel therapeutic strategies, including the use of functional microscopy, biochemical, and rheological methods on mucus hydrogels as well as cell and animal experimental models.
  • You are responsible for the establishment, cultivation, and functional characterization of primary human cell cultures, as well as the processing of biological samples.
  • You participate in the preparation and publication of scientific research results, as well as the preparation of grant applications.
  • You actively present your research results at national and international conferences.
  • You will be employed as a research associate: According to §110 (4), Sentence 3 of the BerlHG, research staff are allocated appropriate time during working hours for their own advanced scientific qualification.

What we are looking for

  • You have a successfully completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, or a comparable field of study.
  • You bring profound knowledge and practical interest in airway physiology, cell and molecular biology, as well as disease mechanisms of chronic lung diseases.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and/or practical experience in relevant laboratory methods (such as cell culture models, fluorescence/confocal microscopy, sample processing) and the willingness to work with animal models (transgenic mouse models) are among your strengths.
  • Very good written and spoken English language skills are a given for you in an international research environment.
  • Your working style is characterized by high self-motivation, scientific curiosity, team spirit, and a structured, independent approach to work.

Charité offers you

  • A highly professional collaboration within a motivated and interdisciplinary team
  • A future-oriented, diverse, and demanding role with a high degree of personal responsibility and scope of action
