Working at Charité

The position is based at the BIH QUEST Center for Responsible Research. The mission of the QUEST Center strives to increase the value of biomedical research at BIH and beyond. The approach of th QUEST Center includes research and services in areas such as meta-research, research data management, open science, teaching, incentives, and patient involvement. The QUEST Center consists of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that develops and implements new approaches to improving biomedical research and is very well connected both locally and internationally.

The "Responsible Algorithms" research group under the direction of Dr. Vince Madai operates at the intersection of Trustworthy AI and meta-research. It focuses on the analysis, development, and implementation of strategies to enhance the robustness and transparency of AI applications. In particular, the group explores methods for assessing and improving AI systems, with the goal of creating trustworthy and ethically accountable AI solutions.

 

We are looking for a student assistant (d/f/m) to start as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term contract.

Overview of the position

  • Conducting literature searches on scientific research questions
  • Contributing to scientific publications, particularly content development, formatting, preparation of figures and tables, and reference checking
  • Supporting data collection and preparation, including data cleaning, coding and transcription
  • Assisting with statistical analyses or machine-learning experiments, depending on prior knowledge and experience
  • Preparing and maintaining research documentation, including protocols and descriptions of methods
  • Providing additional organisational support for workshops, studies or seminars

What we are looking for

  • You are currently enrolled in a university degree programme, for example in computer science, data science, medicine, psychology, the natural sciences, the humanities (such as philosophy or ethics) or a related field.
  • You have demonstrable experience conducting scientific literature searches, for example through a coursework assignment, research project or dissertation, and are familiar with searching academic databases.
  • You have proven native-level proficiency in written and spoken English or proficiency at C1 level or above.
  • You have strong English writing skills and can produce clear, precise and well-structured texts.
  • You are familiar with basic academic research practices and reference management software such as Zotero or EndNote.
  • Knowledge of Python or R and some experience with data preparation, statistical analysis or machine learning would be an advantage.
  • You work carefully, systematically and independently, and coordinate reliably with the team.
