The position is based at the BIH QUEST Center for Responsible Research. The mission of the QUEST Center strives to increase the value of biomedical research at BIH and beyond. The approach of th QUEST Center includes research and services in areas such as meta-research, research data management, open science, teaching, incentives, and patient involvement. The QUEST Center consists of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that develops and implements new approaches to improving biomedical research and is very well connected both locally and internationally. The position is part of the working group “Meta-Research and Translational Bioethics” led by Prof. Dr. Dr. Daniel Strech within the project CAEHR. This project forms part of the Digital Progress Hub CAEHR (Cardiovascular Diseases – Enhancing Healthcare Through Cross-Sectoral Routine Data Integration), which is funded by the BMFTR. The project involves further developing existing governance frameworks for the secondary use of health data, focusing on the interests of data holders and their influence on data access decision-making.
Overview of the position
- Support the development, revision, and piloting of materials for data collection and analysis (e.g., interview guide, templates)
- Extract and summarize structured and unstructured data from different sources according to standardized protocols; maintain and update living datasets
- Conduct thorough manual quality checks on extracted data
- Identify challenges in data extraction or classification and contribute to developing possible solutions
- Manage stakeholder engagement through professional communication and systematic tracking of outreach and follow-up activities
What we are looking for
- Duly enrolled students, particularly in the following fields of study: Public Health, Health Sciences, Medicine, Psychology, Epidemiology, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, or related fields in medicine and health.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for professional stakeholder engagement, with excellent English and strong German language proficiency
- Strong organisational skills, high attention to detail and the ability to work accurately on repetitive tasks
- Analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to justify decisions made
- Familiarity with office and research-related software, such as Microsoft Office applications, collaboration platforms such as GitHub, and digital or AI-supported tools for research and workflow automation
- Prior experience with meta-research, qualitative research methods, and structured data collection and management is an advantage
