Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of the largest and most research-oriented university hospitals in Europe. The Cancer Cell Heterogeneity research group (AG Morkel) at the Institute of Pathology investigates molecular mechanisms underlying cancer initiation and progression. Through 3D Models and single-cell–level studies, we aim to advance our understanding of oncogenic signaling pathways and their role in cancer development. Our goal is to identify novel therapeutic vulnerabilities within cancer cell signaling networks. Our team interacts closely with collaborating research groups at Charité Campus Mitte.

Overview of the position

We are seeking a highly motivated and independently working scientist (postdoctoral researcher) to join our team at the earliest possible date for a period of 18 months, to continue a project on 3D bioprinting of cells from the tumor microenvironment.We are looking for a researcher with experience in culturing diverse cell culture models, including tumor organoid cultures.

Project-related responsibilities include:

  • Culture of cancer cells (3D organoid models) as well as cell types from the tumor microenvironment (e.g., fibroblasts, immune cells), including cell differentiation and preparation for bioprinting
  • Collaboration with project partners in further development of 3D bioprinting methods
  • Performance of single-cell analyses (qRT-PCR, antibody-based assays, scRNA-seq)
  • Data analysis using R

What we are looking for

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, or a related field.  A completed PhD / Dr. rer.medic. in the life sciences is desirable
  • Experience working with 3D cell culture models and/or primary cell models
  • Skills in data analysis using R, preferably including analysis of single-cell data (scRNA-seq)
  • Evidence of independent scientific work demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals is desirable
  • Ability to plan and manage projects independently, combined with a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work effectively in a team

Information regarding the position

  • Paygrade XXX according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
