Working at Charité

The Institute of Virology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin has around 100 staff members, 9 independent research groups, and hosts the National Reference Center for Coronaviruses as well as the Consultation Laboratory for Hantaviruses. The Junior Research Group for Systematic Structural Biology of Viral Infection, led by Dr. Boris Bogdanow, focuses on elucidating virus–host protein–protein interactions in infected cells using modern high-throughput methods in structural and quantitative proteomics.

We are offering a position for a Postdoctoral Scientist (m/f/d) as part of a DFG-funded research project. The position involves conducting an experimental project on virus–host interactions in the context of coronavirus species barriers.

Overview of the position

  • You will be responsible for the project progress of a DFG-funded Project
  • You will be writing publications, preparing presentations and meet with cooperation partners
  • you design and conduct experiments under S2/S3 safety levels independently. You are analysing and interpreting proteomix data
  • you supervising master students and interns
  • You will be employed as a research assistant: According to §110 (4), sentence 3, the BerlHG provides for research assistants to be given an appropriate amount of time during working hours for their own further scientific qualification.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated, and conscientious postdoctoral researcher with a passion for virology and the following profile:

  • PhD in Virology, Structural Biology, or Proteomics, preferably with a first-author publication 
  • Proven practical experience in at least two of the following areas: Virology, Structural Biology, Structural Modeling, Mass Spectrometry 
  • Team-oriented, open-minded, and willing to engage in intensive collaboration with Berlin-wide partners
  • Interest in combining dry- and wet-lab work, optimizing methods, and applying them to advanced cell culture systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Information regarding the position

  • Paygrade XXX according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
  • Working hours can be part-time from XX or full-time with up to 38.5 hours per week. Please indicate how many hours you would like to work per week
