Working at Charité
The project focuses on defining molecular networks that overcome cellular senescence, a nature-given protective mechanism which blocks proliferation of precancerous cells. By using global transposon mutagenesis, we induce malignant transformation in healthy B-cells with a wild type or senescence-incompetent genomic background. Sequencing the pool of transposon insertions allows us to dissect the driving force of lymphomagenesis and senescence-inactivating mechanisms. We further study how this mutational network evolves under therapy to find molecular dependencies which can overcome drug resistance. We deploy advanced in vitro and in vivo model systems, genetic perturbations, lineage tracing and single-cell technologies to study the distinct routes of tumor evolution and modes of therapy resistance.
Overview of the position
- We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician / data scientist to join our research group focused on functional cancer genomics and therapy resistance
- The position is located at the hematology and oncology research lab at the Charité Berlin (Research group of Dr. Maja Milanovic), with interdisciplinary framework and close collaboration between wet-lab and computational scientists
- The vibrant and internationl scientific environment offers numerous interactions with other groups with expertise in cancer biology, immunology, bioinformatics and system biology, as well as various opportunities for advanced scientific education, training and networking
- This 50% position can be supplemented to a fulltime position by a partner laboratory for cancer research that is technologically well aligned to the project described.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Conduct bioinformatics analysis of bulk and single cell RNAseq, DNA sequencing, transposon insertions and CRISPR screen libraries using existing bioinformatic packages and pipelines
- Integrate these datasets with own or public data of molecular, phenotypic (e.g. histology, FACS), drug screening, and clinical information
- Participate in setting up bioinformatics platforms and developing new computational pipelines
- Ensure proper scientific documentation
What we are looking for
- Years of professional experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, data science or related subjects with demonstrated interest in life sciences
- Extensive experience in scientific computing using R and Python for data science
- Proactive working attitude and willingness to learn, develop and apply state-of-the-art computational approaches
- Team spirit and excellent communication skills in multifunctional teams with experts in different areas
- Fluent command of written and spoken English
