Arbeiten am Deutschen Herzzentrum der Charité

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our translational cardiometabolic research team, which focuses on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), metabolism and organ interaction. The position is part of a DZHK-funded partner project entitled: ‘Linking metabolic organ interaction in HFpEF: The interplay between heart, liver and adipose tissue’. This project addresses one of the most pressing challenges in modern cardiovascular medicine: the increasing burden of cardiometabolic HFpEF caused by metabolic disorders in the liver and adipose tissue.

The successful candidate will work in the rich scientific environment of the DHZC, MDC and DZHK and will have access to state-of-the-art multi-omics platforms, advanced cardiovascular phenotyping and extensive clinical and biobank resources. This field offers significant career advantages:

  • the opportunity to work in a current, clinically relevant research area with strong European and global visibility
  • direct integration into large interdisciplinary networks (DZHK, CRC1470, UK Biobank collaborations)
  • a path to high-impact publications and competitive grants
  • a translational environment that connects mechanistic biology → human cohorts → therapeutic innovations

Die Stelle im Überblick

  • You will conduct mechanistic studies to investigate metabolic flows, lipotoxicity and inter-organ signalling between the liver, adipose tissue and heart, and present the results at national and international conferences
  • You will apply multi-omics approaches (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) in preclinical models of HFpEF (HFD+L-NAME, targeted interventions) and evaluate translational interventions (GLP-1 receptor agonists, FGF21 agonists, calorie restriction, cold exposure) in terms of their cardiometabolic and hepatic effects
  • You will identify hepatokines and adipokines that influence cardiac remodelling using TurboID proximity labelling, metabolic assays (Seahorse, Oroboros) and advanced imaging
  • You will collaborate with bioinformaticians to integrate population-based analyses from HFpEF cohorts and the UK Biobank
  • You will participate in the discovery of biomarkers and precision medicine strategies within the CRC1470 and DZHK clinical platforms

You will be employed as a researcher: According to §110 (4), sentence 3, the BerlHG requires researchers to have an appropriate amount of time during their working hours for their own further scientific qualification.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with great potential for independence and excellence

  • You have a PhD in molecular biology, cardiovascular biology, metabolic biology, bioinformatics or a related field
  • You have at least one publication as first author in an internationally recognised journal as well as strong motivation, scientific creativity, and commitment to high-quality research
  • You have extensive experience in wet lab work (cell culture, molecular assays, animal experiments)
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is a great advantage: bioinformatics/computer-assisted analysis, mass spectrometry, NGS/epigenetic approaches, metabolic phenotyping.
  • Furthermore, you have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international team.

What the Charité offers

  • A future-oriented, varied and challenging role with a high degree of personal responsibility and freedom to act
  • Intercultural team events, well-structured onboarding with friendly colleagues
  • Extensive free training and development opportunities
  • Discounts on many offers for employees in the areas of shopping, travel and sport
  • Certified as a family-friendly university and family-friendly company since 2007 (further information can be found here)

Information regarding the position

  • Paygrade E13 according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
  • This full time position is limited until 31 August 2028.
  • The application period ends on 6 February 2026
  • Position ID: 6251
