Working at the Charité

The Institute of Experimental Endocrinology (Prof. Michael Ristow) and its Junior Research Group (Dr. Kevin Perez) at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Campus Mitte) are hiring a Scientist in the field of Biology of Aging. Our newly formed group leverages public biobanks to identify existing drugs associated with lower mortality in the general population, and validate their effect on lifespan and health-span in model organisms (worms, and mice). The position is part of a 3-year German Research Foundation (DFG) research grant.
The project directly builds on two recent publications on the association between medications and lower mortality in the general population (PMID: 39364726), and our comprehensive evaluation of lifespan extending drugs in C. elegans (https://doi.org/10.1101/2024.06.24.600458)

Job Overview

The main responsibilities of the candidate include:

  • Setting up a high-throughput screening platform for lifespan-extending drugs in C. elegans
  • Testing lead compounds in mice for the improvement of aging biomarkers
  • Supervising MS and PhD students
  • Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with their employment relationship

Required:

  • PhD in Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related fied
  • Experiences with C. elegans maintenance, synchronisation and lifespan experiments
  • Mice handling, blood sampling, behavior analysis, frailty
  • Optional: Expertise in drug screening, computational biology, bioinformatics and  experience with handling D. melanogaster

Job Information

  • Salary group E13 according to TVöD- VKA- K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services. You can find the collective agreement here
  • The working time is full-time with 38.5 hours per week
    At our company 30 days of vacation are standard
    The position is limited to 3 years, as it is tied to the project duration
