Working at the Charité

We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated postdoctoral researcher in the Visiting Fellowship research group that is led by Professor Jens Rittscher (https://www.bdi.ox.ac.uk/Team/jens-rittscher) and Professor Daniel Royston. The Visiting Fellow’s group is supported by the Stiftung Charité at the Center for Stroke Research Berlin and hosted by PD Dr. Philipp Mergenthaler. The postholder will support projects in the field of medical image analysis and machine learning applied to biomedical imaging data. 

Job Overview

  • Development of algorithms for analyzing cell and tissue morphology using machine learning and computer vision techniques

  • Collaboration with experts in biomedical image analysis, machine learning and clinical scientists

  • Conducting collaborative projects with partner institutions and research groups
    Identification of clinical research needs in collaboration with pathologists

  • Taking responsibility for the implementation of software solutions to support research and clinical needs

  • Utilize existing algorithm components and collaborate with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering in Oxford

  • Assisting in the coordination of bi-monthly project meetings

  • Provide training to pathologists and other professionals in the use of digital pathology equipment and image analysis software

  • Independent academic research and administrative activities, including project management

  • You are scientifically active: According to § 110 (4), sentence 3, the BerlHG provides academic staff with an appropriate amount of time within their working hours for their own further academic qualification

Required:

  • Completed university degree (Master)
  • Cooperative and collegial collaboration, independent and team-oriented work
  • Knowledge of biomedical image analysis, machine learning and bioinformatics
  • Passion for interdisciplinary work and implementation of solutions in clinical practice
  • High degree of independence
  • Documentation of work, motivation to establish new techniques, independent data analysis and writing of project reports and manuscripts
  • Very good command of English

Job Information

  • Salary group E13 according to TVöD- VKA- K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services. You can find the collective agreement here
  • The working time is full-time with 38.5 hours per week
  • At our company 30 days of vacation are standard
  • The position is limited until 31.08.2027, as it is tied to the project duration
