Job Overview

Our lab's research is dedicated to uncovering how experiences shape neural activity. We focus on learning, the neural circuits governing flexible behavior, and the disruption of cognitive processes in mental disorders. A key area of our research centers on understanding the mechanisms that increase susceptibility to mental disorders following adverse early life experiences. To address these questions, we use rodent models, implementing advanced techniques such as large-scale electrophysiological recordings with Neuropixels probes, innovative behavioral paradigms, optogenetic perturbations, and advanced data analysis methods.

Your area of responsibility:

  • Conduct behavioral and electrophysiological experiments in rodents 
  • Data analysis for large-scale data sets (including electrophysiological and behavioral data)
  • Interpretation and presentation of results in meetings and conferences
  • Writing and publishing research articles
  • Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with their employment relationship (§ 110 BerHG)

Required:

  • Master Degree in Neuroscience (or related field + significant neuroscience research experience and knowledge), graded at least 85% of best possible OR PhD in Neuroscience
  • Research experience with rodent models 
  • Experience with behavioral experiments and ideally stereotactic surgery in rodents
  • Experience with optogenetic manipulations and neural recording methods (imaging or silicon probe recordings) in rodents is a plus
  • Experience with immunohistochemical analyses
  • FELASA certificate for animal experimentation or equivalent
  • Experience in scientific programming and data analysis (e.g. Python and/or Matlab) 
  • Analytical approach to  problem solving
  • Interest and ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Advanced proficiency in English

Job Information

  • Salary group E13 according to TVöD- VKA- K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services. You can find the collective agreement here
  • The working time is part-time with 25 hours per week to full-time with 38.5 hours per week
  • At our company 30 days of vacation are standard
  • The position is limited until 31.12.2025, as it is tied to the project duration
