Working at the Charité

We are seeking applications from highly motivated candidates for a PhD student position in experimental hematology with a strong translational focus. The position is embedded within the Jose Carreras Leukemia Funding led by Dr. Stephan Bohl and Prof. Dr. J. Krönke at the department of Hematology, Oncology, and Tumor Immunology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The main research focus of the lab is to investigate the role of  cancer cell death and drug resistance in hematologic malignancies with the goal of developing new targeted treatments.

Position overview

  • Conduct a research project on cellular and protein biochemistry methods including CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic screens, mitochondrial profiling, proteomics, spectral flow cytometry, primary patient samples and in vivo experiments
  • Development and testing of new therapies using the a high throughput microscope based drug screening system
  • We are closely collaborating with researchers at the Charite, the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine, as well as other national and international research groups
  • Mentoring and support by Dr.Stephan Bohl and will be encouraged to join the "Berlin School of Integrative Oncology" graduate school program

Job profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering or other related subjects
  • Experience in molecular biology (i.e. molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9, flow cytometry, western blot, RNA and DNA analyses)
  • Experience in data analysis and presentation
  • Interest in cancer biology and chemical biology
  • Very good English (lab language) and communication skills

Important information about the position

  • Salary group E13 according to TVöD- VKA-K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services. You can find the collective agreement here
  • The working time is part-time with 25.03 hours per week (65%)
  • At our company 30 days of vacation are standard
