We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate with strong computational skills to join our research group focusing on the development and application of advanced machine learning methods for disease signature analysis and clinical outcome prediction in autoimmune encephalitis and related disorders. This position is part of a newly established DFG-funded Emmy Noether Programme investigating autoimmune encephalitis through both wet-lab and computational approaches. Die Stelle im Überblick

The successful candidate will work on developing and implementing machine learning approaches across several key areas:

  • Development of Disease Signatures:  Analysis of high-dimensional VirScan data to identify viral reactivity patterns
  • Predictive Modeling for Clinical Outcomes: Development of machine learning models for predicting functional outcomes in NMDAR encephalitis and other diseases 
  • Multimodal Disease Progression Analysis: Implementation of machine learning algorithms for analyzing multiple data modalities. Integration of brain imaging, clinical data, immunological markers, and psychological profiles

Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with their employment relationship (§110 BerHG). 

Danach suchen wir

  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Biology, or related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and experience with machine learning libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy)
  • Strong background in statistical analysis and mathematical modeling
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Additional qualifications we seek:

  • Knowledge of transformer architectures and their applications or background in multimodal data integration
  • Teamwork: Dedicated with proven ability to work effectively in a team
  • Leadership and initiative: Enthusiastic and self-motivated with demonstrated track record in conducting research projects
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Basic understanding of biology and medicine (helpful but not required)

Informationen zur Stelle

  • Salary group E13 according to TVöD- VKA-K. The classification is based on qualification, the respective experience level is calculated from the years of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is given for a full-time position without annual bonus, allowances and additional services. You can find the collective agreement here
  • The working time is part-time with 25.03 hours per week (65%)
  • At our company 30 days of vacation are standard
