Working at the Charité

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated scientist to join our team for a Ph.D. in translational lymphoma research. Our young, interdisciplinary team of physicians and scientists from biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics has a strong publication record and is dedicated to advance cancer research.
Join a dynamic team in modern laboratories shared by five research groups, where innovation thrives. Work with state-of-the-art technologies (flow cytometry, protein biochemistry, genomics) and top instruments (automated pipetting systems, high-content Operetta imaging platform). Benefit from ongoing collaborations with single-cell multi-omics, genomics, and proteomics experts at BIMSB, MDC, and BIH. Receive successful onboarding and structured scientific guidance to support your research.

Job overview

In your Ph.D. project, you will investigate the immune-cold tumor microenvironment (TME) in aggressive B cell lymphoma to identify genetic drivers and biomarkers to develop novel pharmacological combination therapies aimed at enhancing cancer immunity.

  • Build a High-Resolution Immune Cell Landscape: Develop a detailed immune cell profile of our primary lymphoma patient cohort to identify biomarkers impacting the TME
  • Establish Genetic Models for Biomarker Testing: Create and utilize genetic models to explore the effects of your biomarker on the efficacy of novel immunotherapies
  • Validate Treatment Strategies in Preclinical Models: Test biomarker-informed immunotherapuetic strategies using preclinical mouse models

In this project, you will utilize techniques such as flow cytometry, protein biochemistry, CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing and sequencing-technologies with the possibility to perform independent bioinformatical analysis. On top, you will learn to apply advanced spectral flow cytometry techniques and engage in single-cell multi-omics through collaborations. You will work with diverse models, including primary patient material, cell lines, patient datasets, and mouse models.

Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with § 110 BerlHG.

We are looking for

  • Educational Background: You should hold a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Pharmacy, Bioengineering, or a related field
  • Background in Molecular and Cell Biology Expertise: A strong foundation in molecular and cell biology is preferred
  • Pre-Clinical Models and NGS Experience: Ideally, experience with pre-clinical models (e.g., FELASA certificate) and proficiency in analyzing data from standard NGS platforms is advantageous
  • Language Skills: Excellent English skills are required; knowledge of German is a plus
  • Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication skills, experience working in multidisciplinary teams, and a record of working in competitive research environments are highly valued
  • A thorough knowledge of our recent research work is required for the application process (please review PMID 35499080 and 35022408)
