Frequently asked questions

The Charité as an employer

Can I enjoy a healthy balance between family life and career if I work at the Charité?

The Charité has been certified as a family-friendly company since 2007 already. We support parents with regular and flexible childcare, with care in emergencies, overtime or if their child is ill as well as during the holidays. There is a family-friendly pool for employees in the healthcare professions who wish to reduce their working hours or make them more flexible. Find out more here.

How will I be compensated?

If you work for us, you will be compensated fairly and transparently in accordance with the applicable labor agreement – and that includes 30 days of annual leave. You can find our labor agreements and salary scales here.

Is it also possible to work part time?

Generally, we also offer the option to work part time. The best way to determine whether and how you can do this is to speak directly with your respective contact person.

What opportunities are there for advancement?

The Charité will support your career and promote your further education. We are convinced that we can provide the best healthcare only if all Charité employees are able to grow and push their boundaries – whether in clinical routine care, as mentors, in their studies, in research or through teaching. You can find more information on further education and training opportunities on the page of our training academy. Also talk with your contact person regarding individual further training opportunities.

Starting your career and the application process

What documents do I need for my application?

As a general rule, you should have a cover letter, your curriculum vitae and credentials as well as your professional certification and any other relevant certificates. Our online form outlines the information we absolutely need and the details you can submit voluntarily if you wish. Alternatively, you can contact us via the quick application route – this is a very simple process and you do not need to submit any documents.

What is the application process like?

As soon as you have submitted your documents, we will check them and contact you. If you fulfil the criteria for the role in question, we will invite you to attend a digital or in-person interview, depending on your preference. One-day shadowing sessions are also possible on request, and are mandatory in some cases. You can expect to receive a definitive response to your application around one week after the interview (and the shadowing session where relevant).

There are currently no positions advertised that are suitable for me. Can I submit an unsolicited application?

Even if we are not yet advertising the perfect job for you, our vacant positions can change quickly. Therefore, we always welcome unsolicited applications.

If you are interested in employment aside from the health professions, please email your unsolicited application to the applicable facility.

Are work shadowing or an internship available at the Charité?

The Charité is pleased to facilitate internships and shadowing for applicants aged 14 and over. This will enable you to deepen your knowledge in specific fields and familiarize yourself with the tasks involved as well as getting to know potential future colleagues. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer paid internships at the moment. If you are interested in shadowing, please contact the relevant ward directly

Can I apply to the Charité if I am rejoining the workforce?

We also warmly welcome people who have taken an extended break from their chosen profession or who have not worked in the hospital sector for a long time. We will work with them to find a way back to work that is tailored to suit their individual needs.

I have more questions, who can I contact?
